about
The last song I made for the record. Took the longest to complete & was among the most rewarding to work on.
In some ways this song is the epitome of what I was trying to go for with the record: minimal, repeated melodic material, improvised micro-variations during the recording process, serenity & calm but an intermittent sense of something coming -- some kind of very low lying but not unpleasant tension like the hum in an engineering room.
Oh and that little fuzzy layer in the background? That's me recording my bedtime white-noise machine.
Dedicated to my father, who died in 2011.

Jess Hotchkiss' music is honest, pure, urgent. A tiny clearing outside of town, 3 AM, unidentifiable animals watching you from between trees. This LP to me summarizes her tremendous talent and power. C.Way
Healthy dark racket, massive drum clatter, gorgeous-ugly guitar squall. Thrilling live shows. Go listen to their cover of Roxy Music's "In Every Dream Home a Heartache". C.Way
Fans of Tindersticks, Beach Boys, great melodies & sonic splendor:flock to these songs of disarming tenderness, glorious moodiness, & sparkling songcraft.Standout: the swelling grandeur of "Winter". C.Way
Taking tradition full-on, the Kentucky cellist touches genres as far afield as folk and R&B with his iconoclastic compositions. Bandcamp New & Notable May 4, 2016
